What you need to know
Now that you have your stunning, new timber floor…keep it looking as good as new with regular maintenance.
We recommend that the fresh coating on your floor needs to be left to harden for about 1-2 weeks, depending on the type of coating used. This is so that you avoid any scuffing or scratching to your stunning new floor.
These are just some of the many simple, effective ways to minimise wear on your beautiful timber floor:
- Regular sweeping with an antistatic mop: this is a quick and effective way of collecting dirt and grit
- Dust catching mats: to collect sand and grit at external doorways and avoid propensity for scratching
- Prompt cleaning of spills and leaks: immediately wipe up any leaks or spills to ensure no long term damage is done
- Occasional mopping with a pH neutral cleaner: be careful to only use cleaning products recommended from your timber supplier; avoid harsh detergents, vinegar ormethylated spirits as these chemically damage some coatings
- Avoid leather soled shoes and stilettos: having soft footwear for inside the home will protect your timber floor from aggressive foot traffic
- Put felt pads on furniture: put protection felt pads on the feet of tables and chairs, to minimise scratching; ensure any heavy furniture is not dragged, but lifted
- Place runners or rugs in heavy traffic areas: such as your entrance or hallway to protect your timber floor whilst enhancing the warm appeal of your home
- Avoid constant, intense sunlight: harsh sunlight can often affect the colour and finish of boards over time and may cause cupping or gapping
